County approves conditional use permits for Lake Madison area properties

Several conditional use permits for property near Lake Madison were approved Tuesday by the Lake County Commission, acting as a Board of Adjustment.

ZL, Incorporated and Van Buskirk Companies applied for a conditional use for a private park and recreation area in the new Zimmermann Landing development area on the east side of Lake Madison.  County Zoning Officer Mandi Anderson said this will be a private park and recreation area for the homeowners in the single-family development.  She said some of the amenities being planned for the area are walking trails, playgrounds, restrooms, ball courts, a frisbee golf course, and picnic areas.

Lance Nordstrom with Nordstrom Investment Company, LLC requested a conditional use permit to sell fireworks out of a permanent structure.  Anderson told the board that Nordstrom had sold fireworks in the past out of a temporary tent structure, and now wanted to use a more permanent location for the seasonal business.  In the off-season, Anderson said the structure is used for Nordstrom’s business storage.

Nordstrom, along with Dan Stapleton, requested a conditional use permit to expand their current private campground to add additional sites.  Nordstrom owns Jacob’s Landing Campground on the south side of Lake Madison, which currently has around 56 full RV hook-ups.  He requested the permit to add an additional 25-to-35 spots, as he said there is great demand for them.  Â
