City of Madison issues Energy Alert

The City of Madison’s Electric Department has issued an Energy Alert today until 8:00 tonight, due to the persistent warmer weather forecast for this week.  During this time, Madison city consumers are encouraged to voluntarily conserve or limit energy usage, which will assist in controlling the peak demand on the power system.  This means turning off any extra lights, and delaying any major appliance usage such as dryers, washers, and dishwashers.

Madison Mayor Roy Lindsay explains more about why the Energy Alert has been issued for today (Tuesday).

Lindsay said that the city has been operating its generating plant some of the time also to help out.  He said that conserving energy now will help the city and consumers save money in the end.

Lindsay said that city electric consumers should be aware that there could be additional energy alerts in the future.

Again, the City of Madison is currently in an Energy Alert until 8:00 this evening.  Please conserve energy where possible during this time.
