24 Trojans Athletes Earn NSAA All-Conference Distinctions

Dakota State had 24 athletes earn NSAA All-Conference distinctions for the Outdoor Track and Field season. The conference officially announced its Women’s and Men’s Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference list and postseason awards Tuesday based on the results of the three-day conference meet in Dickinson, ND.

Individuals need to place in the top three and top two relay teams in each event to receive All-Conference recognition.

17 DSU men’s athletes received the NSAA All-Conference distinction, while seven Trojan women’s athletes collected the all-conference honors.

Conner Tordsen was named the NSAA Field-of-the-Meet, as well as the league’s Track and Field Most Valuable Athlete for the second consecutive year.

He scored the most points in the field events during the conference meet, scoring a total of 35 points, winning three throwing titles. He won the hammer throw for the third straight year, setting the conference meet record toss of197 feet, 2 inches. He broke his previous NSAA conference meet record of 192 feet, 2 inches during the 2022 meet.

Tordsen added the discus throw NSAA title for the second straight year and captured the conference shot-put title for the Trojans. He was fourth in the javelin throw.

The league’s head coach voted Tordsen as the NSAA Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Most Valuable Athlete, highlighted by his numerous impressive NAIA ‘A” automatic qualifying marks as well as being named to the NAIA National Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week on back-to-back weeks. It was the first time in Trojan men’s outdoor track & field program history that an athlete was named to the national weekly honor on back-to-back weeks.

The Trojans racked up the NSAA meet record of 310 points to win the men’s team title, where they scored at least a point in every event. DSU scored 143 points in the women’s team standings.

DSU’s women won a pair individual event titles in the North Star conference meet – 1500-meter run (Lindsey Roth – first Trojan to win the women’s 1500-meter run conference title) and triple jump (Fane Sauvakacolo – for the second straight year).

Dakota State won 10 different men’s titles during the NSAA outdoor track & field meet, including two relay events (4×800-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay). The Trojans produced at least an All-Conference in 15 different events in the conference meet.

Taylor Myers won a pair of long-distance run titles, winning the 10,000-meter run on May 11 followed by the 5000-meter run on May 12. It was his second straight year that he had captured a pair of long-distance titles.

Cody Farland won a pair of individual running titles in the 1500- and 800-meter runs for DSU.  He established the NSAA conference meet record in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3 minutes, 56.70 seconds (previously held by Christopher Moreno of Dickinson, N.D. in 2017 meet with a time of 4:02.66).
