Madison Fire Department responds to two calls

The Madison Fire Department responded to a couple of calls within minutes of each other on Saturday evening.

Fire Chief Randy Minnaert said that firefighters responded to a call in the one-thousand block of North Lincoln Avenue in Madison just after 7:15 Saturday evening.  He said that there was smoke in an apartment from burnt food.  Minnaert said that firefighters were on scene for around twenty minutes to help clear the smoke out, but said there was no damage to the apartment.

Just less than ten minutes after that call, Madison firefighters were called to a residence in Junius for a tree on fire.  Minnaert said that the property owner had been burning some yard waste earlier in the week and was adding more to the pit on Saturday.  He said that the wind stirred up some hot embers, which then caught a nearby tree on fire.  Minnaert said that firefighters were on scene for around an hour and a half.
