DSU Advances to NSAA Championship After Final Four Win

In the NSAA Final Four, the Dakota State Trojans women’s basketball team got a 82-37 win over Dickinson State to advance to the conference championship game.

Despite a somewhat sluggish start from the Trojans, DSU scored ten more points then Dickinson State in the first quarter, and added 22 more points in the second to take a 43-19 lead into halftime. 

The Trojans had seven three-pointers in the first half, with Morgan Huber hitting three. 

Coming out of halftime, the Trojans used a 12-0 run to continue to build on their lead. They allowed only ten points in the quarter, with just two Blue Hawks being able to score.

Dakota State was able to cruise through the final quarter, getting a 82-37 victory which allowed them to advance to the NSAA Championship Game. 

Courtney Menning had a game-leading 15 points for the Trojans, adding two assists, a rebound, and a block.

Elsie Aslesen and Huber both scored 14 points. Aslesen also had six rebounds and five steals. Meanwhile, Huber added two rebounds, two assists, and a steal while also going 4-9 from beyond the arc.

Savannah Walsdorf had five points, six rebounds, and seven assists, along with two steals.

Sidney Fick led the Trojans bench with 12 points and five rebounds.

The Blue Hawks were led by Kayden Steele’s nine points, with six coming in the third quarter.

The Trojans forced 26 turnovers and scored 30 points off those turnovers, while the Blue Hawks were able to only score five points off of 13 Trojans turnovers.

As a team, Dakota State was 28-67 shooting from the field and 12-33 from deep, while Dickinson State only hit 12-52 from the field and were 1-20 from three-point range.

Dakota State’s win streak is now 15, and they will play Mayville State on Sunday, February 26th for the NSAA Championship. Game tips-off at 1pm and can be heard on FM 103.1 or online at AmazingMadison.com.
