Westover and Boomsma named DSU Athletes of the Year


DSU held their annual Honors Banquet Wednesday night. Kylie Westover and Seth Boomsma were selected as outstanding athletes of the year.

 

DSU took part in Red Raider Invite


DSU’s outdoor track and field team took part in The Red Raider Invite in Orange City,Iowa. Two athletes took runner-up honors while 9 set new personal records in the two day track and field meet hosted by Northwestern.
 

Madison Alumni Basketball Tournament enters 25th year


The annual Madison Alumni Basketball Tournament gets underway with games later today.  The Tournament, which is celebrating its 25th year this year, will consist of 14 men’s teams and seven women’s teams competing throughout the weekend.

After strong year, Madison wrestlers honored


The Madison wrestling team honored individuals and recognized the accomplishments of the team at a recent end of the year banquet.  The Bulldogs set several team and individual records during this season.

DSU's Mitchell named NSAA Player-of-the-Week


DSU softball player Samantha Mitchell was named the Co-Player-of-the-Week this week by the North Star Athletic Association.  The freshman shared the honors with Valley City State’s Brittany Lehner.

Four to be inducted into MHS Athletic Hall of Fame


In coordination with the annual alumni weekend, Madison High School will host its Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet on Saturday night at Nicky’s in Madison.  Three individuals and the 1945 Bulldog boys’ basketball team will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.

Madison track and field battles hard at Greeno Meet


The Madison girls and boys track and field teams took part in the Rich Greeno city meet in Sioux Falls on Tuesday.  The Bulldogs faced all four ‘AA’ Sioux Falls schools in the meet.

Bulldog boys tennis swept in Sioux Falls


The Madison boys’ tennis team dropped a pair of matches in a triangular in Sioux Falls on Tuesday.  The Bulldogs were defeated by Sioux Falls Lincoln and Sioux Falls Roosevelt in the triangular hosted by the Rough Riders at Kuehn Park.

Flyer girls, St. Mary boys take top spots at Chester Invite


Several area track and field athletes had strong days at the Chester Booster Invitational on Tuesday.  A total of eight schools participated in the annual event.

ELB hosted Vince Relays


Ten schools took part in the Vince Relays at Elkton Lake Benton High School on Saturday. The Elks claimed first in both the girls and boys competitions. On the girls side Elkton Lake Benton had team a score of 147. Sioux Valley took second with 109.5, Flandreau third with 96.5 and De Smet was fourth. Flandreau's Sinona Flute took first in the 1600 Madie Hursey claimed the 3200

Madison's VandeBerg to play at Wayne State


Madison’s Trae VandeBerg has decided to continue his basketball playing career at the collegiate level.  The senior has committed to play basketball at Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska.

Cornbelt Amateur Baseball prepares for upcoming season


The Cornbelt League held their annual spring meeting on Thursday night in Salem.  Several items regarding the upcoming season were discussed.

Madison boys tennis wins three matches at Rezatto Rumble


The Madison boys’ tennis team posted a 3-1 record over the weekend at the two-day Rezatto Rumble in Aberdeen.  It was the first year of the tournament held in honor of former Aberdeen Roncalli head coach Judy Rezatto, who died of cancer in 2012.

Area athletes earn top finishes at Jesse James Invite


Several area track and field athletes competed well at the Jesse James Invitational in Garretson on Saturday.  A total of 10 schools participated in the event.

Trojan baseball earns win, but drops series to Valley City State


After dropping a pair of games on Friday, the Dakota State University baseball team was able to salvage a win in the four-game series against Valley City State on Saturday.  The Vikings took Game 1 3-0, while DSU capped off the series with a 4-3 win in 11 innings.

DSU softball swept by Dickinson State in tripleheader


The Dakota State University softball team was swept in a tripleheader on Saturday at the Thue Softball Complex.  DSU was defeated by Dickinson State by scores of 5-0, 7-3, and 9-1 in six innings, dropping their record to 8-22 on the season.

Trae VandeBerg named SDBCA Player-of-the-Year


Madison senior Trae VandeBerg continues to rack up the honors and awards after helping the Bulldogs to their second straight state championship.  The senior was named the Class ‘A’ Boys Basketball Player-of-the-Year by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association.

Madison girls golf falls to Vermillion


Competing in its second match of the season, the Madison girls’ golf team took to the course on Thursday.  After being snowed out a week ago, the Bulldog girls traveled to Vermillion for a dual with the Tanagers at The Bluffs Golf Course.

Dell Rapids boys earn top spot at Tri-Valley Invite


Several area schools descended on Colton Thursday for the annual Tri-Valley track and field Invitational.  The Sioux Falls Christian girls and Dell Rapids boys’ teams earned first-place finishes at the event.
