Madison Maroon 14s take 4th at State


The Madison Maroon 14 year old baseball team was 1-2 and took 4th place at The VFW 13-14 A State Tournament over the weekend at Leahy Bowl in Winner. Madison opened up play Friday with a 10-4 victory over host Winner . Josh Giles collected 2 of their 5 hits as Madison took advantage of 6 Winner errors. Jeridan Jordahl pitched 4 innings to get the win.

 

Cornbelt Semi-Finals Begin Tonight


The District 4B Amateur Baseball Tournament resumes today in Colman, with a pair of Semi-final games.

At 6pm the #9 seed Humbolt/Hartford Gamecocks will take on the #4 seed Flandreau Cardinals. It will be the third game of the tournament for Humbolt/Hartford. The Gamecocks defeated Harrisburg on Friday, and then sent the #1 seed Canova into the consolation bracket with a 1-0 win on Saturday.

Madison Post 25 Plays for Championship Today


Brandon Burg threw 7 strong innings, as Madison Post 25 continued an unbeaten run in the State B American Legion Tournament. Burg only 3 runs on 6 hits as Madison defeated McCook/Miner 12-3. Jacob Leighton pitched the final two innings, striking out 5.
Madison continued to hit well, with Jacob Giles collecting 3 hits. Reid Guse and Preston Nordling each had a triple and a single.

Canova and Harrisburg Advance in District 4B


Two teams were eliminated from the District 4B Amatuer Baseball Tournament in Colman last night, including the host team. The Colman A’s could manage only 1 run off Harrisburg starting pitcher Brandon Womack as the number nine seed Harrisburg defeated Colman 3-1, eliminating the A’s from the post-season.

Madison Post 25 Tops Groton in 5


Jacob Giles and Tyler Currey each homered on Sunday night, as Madison Post 25 advanced to the Semi-Finals of the State B American Legion Tournament. Madison’s offence produced 10 runs, more than enough for starting pitcher Giles, he allowed on three hits as Madison earned a 10-0 win in 5 innings.

Madison Post 25 is the only undefeated team left in the double elimination tournament.

Madison downs Dell Rapids at District 4B Tournament


After falling in their opening game at the District 4B Amateur Baseball Tournament in 2013, the Madison Broncos made the most of their opportunities on Saturday to earn a victory in Colman.  No. 3 seed Madison edged No. 6 seed Dell Rapids PBR 3-2, earning a spot in the Tournament semifinals on Tuesday.

Flandreau earns walk-off win over Salem


Two ties and three lead changes defined the matchup between Salem and Flandreau Saturday night at the District 4B Amateur Baseball Tournament in Colman.  The Cardinals were able to earn a 6-5 win in walk-off fashion in 11 innings.

Humboldt Hartford Advances With Win Over Harrisburg


Humboldt Hartford scored 3 runs in the 8th to pick up a win in the first round of the district  4B tournament beating Harrisburg 7-6. The Woodies opened up the game scoring two in the 1st. Harrisburg would hold the lead until the bottom of the 8th. With the score at 6-4 Danny Flahie knocked in two runs with a double to tie it at 6. Flahie scored the go a head run two batters later on a Kyle

Grand Slam, 15 Ks lead Lennox over Canistota at District 4B Tournament


Lennox advanced using a shutout at the District 4B Amateur Baseball Tournament on Friday night.  Lennox Only One defeated the Canistota Rebels 7-0 on Day 1 of the Tournament in Colman.

Madison Legion baseball team downs Parkston at State


The Madison Legion baseball team earned a victory in the opening round of the State B American Legion Tournament on Friday.  Post 25 defeated Parkston by a score of 8-3, to advance to the winner’s bracket in Tabor.

Doubleheader kicks off District 4B Baseball Tournament tonight


The District 4B Amateur Baseball Tournament will get underway tonight.  All 10 teams from the Cornbelt League will be featured in the double-elimination tournament, hosted this year by the Colman A’s.

DSU Athletic Department hosting Trojan Golf Scramble


The Dakota State University Athletic Department will be hitting the links on Monday.  DSU is hosting its second golf tournament of the summer as part of a fundraiser.

Summit League Championships returning to South Dakota


Summit League Championships will again take place in the state of South Dakota during the upcoming 2014-2015 school year.  Of the 19 total men’s and women’s championships, three of them will be held in South Dakota.

The 2014 South Dakota State ‘B’ American Legion Baseball Tournament is set to get underway tomorrow in Tabor.  The Tournament will feature seven Region Champions, plus the host team, in the five-day double-elimination tournament.

The Cornbelt League baseball teams will descend on Colman this weekend, as the District 4B Amateur Baseball Tournament will get underway.  16 games will take place over the course of seven days in the annual postseason tournament.

Madison's Langford, Gustaf compete at SDGA Junior Championship


A pair of Madison golfers took part in the South Dakota Golf Association’s 36th Annual Junior Championship this week.  The two-day tournament wrapped up on Tuesday at the Broadland Creek Golf Course in Huron.

Madison MadDogs win State 12U VFW Championship


The Madison 12-and-under baseball team, known as the MadDogs, earned the South Dakota VFW Class A 12-and-under Baseball Championship this past weekend in Humboldt.  The MadDogs outscored their opponents by a 56-4 margin on their way to earning the title.

Madison Maroon 14s survive elimination to claim Region 2A title


The Madison Maroon 14-year-old VFW baseball team avoided elimination five times last week, en route to claiming the Region 2A Championship.  In the decisive championship game Friday night in Flandreau, the Maroon defeated Flandreau 12-11 in extra innings to claim the Region title.
