McCook Central Montrose looks from win #8

The McCook Central Montrose Fighting Cougars will try to finish the regular season undefeated when they hit the road to take on The Sioux Falls Christian Chargers tonight in the regular season finale. After an early playoff exit last season The Fighting Courage are the top team in their region this year and are ranked 5th in 11B.

Madison Bulldogs Senior Night

The Madison Bulldogs won their 17th match last night at home against Dell Rapids in straight sets. It was also Senior Night as well. Congrats to the Seniors Sabrina Bloom, Morgan SKluzacek, Brenna Johnson, Roz Vanden Bosch, Taylor Bird and Manger Cara Rathz. The Bulldogs dominated the 1st set and won 25-9. Sioux Falls Christian host MCM in regular season finale

Sioux Falls Christian will host undefeated McCook Central Montrose tomorrow night in the final game of the regular season. After finishing last year 2-6 The Chargers are 4-3 after beating Sisseton 37-6 in week 7.

Madison beats Dell Rapids 25-9,29-27,25-14

The Madison volleyball team won their 17th match Tuesday at home beating Dell Rapids in straight sets on Senior Night. After a pregame ceremony to honor the parents and seniors Sabrina Bloom,Morgan Skluzacek, Brenna Johnson, Roz VandenBosch, Taylor Bird and Cara Rathz the Bulldogs controlled the 1st set and won 25-9.

Gonzalez named NSAA Volleyball Defensive Player of The Week

Dakota State University’s Katherine Gonzalez was named The North Star Athletic Association’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.The senior libero collected 122 digs and averaged 5.8 digs per set is 5 matches for The Trojans in competition last week.

Howard claims Cornbelt Conference Football Title

Howard trailed Canistota 12-8 before scoring 44 unanswered points to get the 52-12 win Friday night. Quarterback Jordan Genzlinger passed for 2 touchdowns connecting with Tanner Henkel and Adonis Ruml while Luke Loudenberg rushed for 236 yards with 5 touchdowns.

NSAA releases preseason basketball poll

The North Star Athletic Association released their Coaches’ Preseason Basketball Polls Friday. The Dakota State University Men’s team received 31 points and tied with The University of Jamestown for 1st while The Lady T’s got 15 points and were ranked 5th.

Madison finishes regular season 7-1

The Madison Bulldogs finished the regular with a win beating Vermillion 25-6 at The DakotaDome.  Isaac Schubert got Madison on the score board with a 1 yard touchdown with just over 5 minutes left in the opening quarter and Brayden Gilbert kicked the extra point to make it 7-0.

McCook Central Montrose moves to 7-0

McCook Central Montrose kept their record perfect with a 47-0 win over Flandreau at Senior Night Friday in Salem. The Fighting Cougars opened scoring less than 3 minutes into the game on a 44 yard Joe Hanson touchdown and then Hanson kicked the extra point to make it 7-0. They would get 15 more point on touchdowns from Jerry Kappenman and Tyler Cleveland to lead 22-0 after the 1st quarter.

The McCook Central Montrose Fighting Cougars football team will try to keep their season perfect when they host The Flandreau Fliers in their final regular season  home game tonight in Salem. MCM who is ranked 5th in Class 11B picked up win number 6 last week in Redfield beating The Pheasants 46-7.

Giles Leads DSU to 4th Win of the Season

            Dakota State University came from behind three times on Thursday night for a 22-17 win over Briar Cliff, at the DakotaDome in Vermillion. Briar Cliff took 3-0 lead on their first position, but the Trojans quickly answered with a 91 yard touchdown pass from Jacob Giles to Austin Opdahl. A missed PAT gave DSU a 6-3 lead.

Madison Boys and Girls Qualify for State Cross Country

            The Madison boys and girls Cross Country teams are heading to the State Meet, after qualifying at Thursday’s Region 2A competition. The Madison girls are again Region Champions after sweeping the top three spots, and four of the top 15 overall. Emily Hawkes won the girls race in a time of 14:57, Hailey Streff was 2nd, and

Howard Girls Claim Region 2B Title

The Howard girls Cross Country team took first place at the Region 2B meet in Howard on Wednesday. The Tigers had a total of 17 points; Dell Rapids St. Mary followed with 27, Hanson was 3rd. The Chester girls finished in 4th place, just missing qualifying as a team for State.

DSU Football Tries to Get Back to .500 Tonight

The Dakota State University football team will try to end a two-game losing streak tonight as they travel to Vermillion to take on Briar Cliff.

Dakota State is coming off a 37-29 loss to Jamestown.  The Trojans attempted a late comeback in that game. Backup quarterback Jacob Giles led the Trojans to four 2nd half touchdowns in the loss.

            The Madison High School football team is not only #1 in the polls; the Bulldogs are also the top team in the 11A power points standings. The South Dakota High School Activities Association uses the power points to determine seeding in the playoffs. Each team receives 45 points for a win and 25 points for a loss, with bonus points

Madison beats Garrestson in 3 sets

The Madison volleyball overcame a tough first set to deaf Garretson 3-0 last night. The Bulldogs started out strong and were up 15-3 before The Blue Dragons began a rally to tie it at 19. Garretson then took the lead before Madison closed out the set 25-22. Set number 2 was back and forth with 6 ties before The Bulldogs gained momentum to win 25-14 and then won the final set 25-15.

Latest South Daktoa Football Polls

The Madison Bulldogs remain the top ranked team in 11A football in this week’s South Dakota Sports Writers Poll. Madison picked up all nine first place votes for the third consecutive week. The new #2 team in 11A is Dell Rapids, the Quarriers moved up one spot after their 35-25 win over West Central. The Trojans fell to #3, with Tea and Hot Springs rounding out the top five.
