Elkton-Lake Benton ends Madison's season


The Madison girls’ basketball season came to an end last night at they lost to Elkton-Lake Benton in the first round of the District 5A playoffs. The Lady Elks advanced to Thursday’s title game with a 74-54 victory.

Northern State AD Retiring; Replacement Named


After thirty years at Northern State University as a student, educator, coach and most recently Athletic Director, Coach Bob Olson is retiring. 

Tri-Valley Girls will play for District title


The Tri-Valley girls’ basketball team went through their regular season schedule and posted a 17-3 record.  The Mustangs, who were State Tournament participants last season, are two wins away from making it back to the State Tournament in Spearfish.

Baltic Girls host Garretson to open Districts


The Baltic Girls basketball team will open play tonight in the District 6A tournament as the #1 seed.  The Bulldogs, who went 16-4 in the regular season, will host #4 seed Garretson.  Baltic faced Garretson earlier this season and defeated the Blue Dragons 57-49 on January 13th.

Senior MHS Gymnasts Wrap Up Careers


For the first time in a couple of seasons, the Madison Gymnastics team will have several athletes graduating this year. Danielle Bloom and Laura Blom both competed in their last gymnastics meet as Bulldogs this last weekend at the State “A” Gymnastics Meet in Brookings.

Estelline opens District play this week


The Estelline Girls basketball team has enjoyed plenty of success this season.  The Lady Redmen wrapped up the regular season with a two point loss to District foe Castlewood to end their regular season with a record of 16-3.

Weekend Trojan Recap


The Dakota State University Men’s and Women’s basketball teams finished their regular season schedule splitting a doubleheader of games against South Dakota Mines Saturday in Rapid City.  The DSU Women fell to the Lady Hardrockers 77-64, while the Men picked up a 79-74 victory.

DSU Baseball canceled Monday


The DSU baseball game with Peru State scheduled for this afternoon in Sabetha, Kansas has been canceled due to a poor weather forecast, with no make-up date schedule.  The Trojans are 2-2 on the year after splitting a four-game set over the weekend against Ottawa (Kan.).

Gymnasts Have Solid Weekend at State


Madison’s gymnasts wrapped up their season this weekend at the State Gymnastics meet in Brookings. The girls took home second place in Friday’s team competition, and had several top-5 finishes in the individual and all-around competition on Saturday.

A.I.I. Men's and Women's Basketball Pairings Set


The Association of Independent Institutions has selected its field for this weekend’s State Farm A.I.I. Men’s and Women’s Basketball tournaments. Competition in the single-elimination tournament starts Friday and runs through Sunday at the Dakota State University Fieldhouse in Madison.

Bulldog Wrestlers Qualify For State


Madison qualified five wrestlers Saturday at the Region 1A Meet at Sioux Falls Roosevelt.

Bulldogs win 8th straight


Madison's boys ran their current win streak to eight-straight games as the Bulldogs downed Pipestone last night 82-47 in Pipestone, Minnesota.

Trojan men's basketball falls short in double overtime thriller at BHSU


SPEARFISH, S.D. – In the battle of former Dakota Athletic Conference foes Friday night at the Donald E. Young Gymnasium, Dakota State and Black Hills State men's basketball teams took two extra periods to complete the game.  The Trojans fell short in double overtime thriller to the Yellow Jackets 74-72 to gain a season series split.

Yellow Jackets sweep season series with DSU women’s basketball


SPEARFISH, S.D. – Black Hills State opened the game with a 12-0 run and never trailed in the game to defeat Dakota State 51-39 in a battle of former Dakota Athletic Conference women's basketball foes at Donald E. Young Gymnasium Friday night.  The Yellow Jackets swept the season series with the Trojans.

Bulldog rally falls short against Dells


A fourth-quarter comeback fell just short last night as Madison’s girls lost to Dell Rapids in the regular-season finale at Madison Middle School Gym. The Quarriers held off the Bulldogs 58-49.
