Dakota State football signs 20 student-athletes

MADISON, S.D. -- The Dakota State University football team signed 20 student-athletes to letters of intent on Wednesday.  Athletes from 10 different states, including six from South Dakota, will join the Trojan roster this fall.

In its recruiting process, DSU went after athletes to fill important needs.  Head Coach Josh Anderson says the Trojan football team needed players on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.

One of the players that headlines the DSU recruiting class is quarterback Jacob Giles from Madison High School.  Coach Anderson says fans this past season saw Giles in action at Trojan Field for the Bulldogs and they wanted to make sure he stayed in town with the Trojans.

A number of area athletes will continue their football careers at Dakota State, including offensive lineman Jacob Habeger of Dell Rapids.  Coach Anderson says when you get players from strong high school programs, like Dell Rapids, it makes the transition to college football easier.

The Trojans open next season at home, hosting Mayville State on August 30th.
