The Sioux Falls man charged with allegedly making robo-calls in Lake County in September made his first court appearance in Lake County Magistrate Court Thursday morning. 31-year-old Daniel Willard did not appear, but instead was represented by his attorney R. Shawn Tornow. Tornow asked for a preliminary hearing on the four misdemeanor election law violations. That was scheduled for February 14th. Willard is charged with orchestrating a robo-call campaign during election season that criticized GOP legislative leader, including Senator Russell Olson of Madison, but lacked the necessary identifying disclaimers.
The four charges Willard faces are misdemeanor charges, carrying maximum penalties of a year in jail and a two-thousand dollar fine.
