Just about half-way through the season there’s a battle for the top spot in the Corn Belt League Standings. After Sunday’s games, Canova has a 9-1 record, a slim half-game lead over the Dell Rapids Mudcats and Salem.
One of the reasons for the Gang’s success this year has been the pitching of Jared Donohue. Donohue started his amateur career with Canova, then played last year for Winner before returning to play for the Gang. He says it’s pretty much the same since he last played for the Gang two seasons ago.
Donohue had a dominant performance during Sunday’s game against Harrisburg. He held theWoodies to just one hit while striking out 12-batters. He says with the new changes in the bats this year, he’s been more aggressive on the mound.
As for goals, Donohue says he’d like the Gang to raise the state championship trophy later this summer in Mitchell.
Harrisburg and Madison are each 2-1/2 games back at 7-4 while Colman and Dells PBR are each 4-1/2 games back with 5-6 records. Tea is 5 games back at 4-6 while Lennox is 5-1/2 games back at 4-7. Flandreau, Canistota and Humboldt round out the standings.
There’s only one game on the schedule tonight as Humboldt is at Madison.
