Deadline for election petitions is coming soon

Friday is the last day for petitions to be filed for the Madison City Commission and Madison Central School Board elections.  So far, only one petition has been submitted for the Madison City Commission – new candidate Pat Mullen of Madison.  Two seats are open on the commission this year.  City commissioners serve three year terms.
Two people have filed petitions for the two seats available on the Madison Central School Board so far.  Current board member Steve Nelson and new candidate Camelyn Sims, both of Madison, submitted their petitions last week.  Two seats are open on the school board as well – Nelson’s and Michelle Tucek’s.  Tucek says she will not run for another term on the school board this year.
If enough petitions are filed for an election to be held in either or both of these races, it will be held on April 10th.
Candidates in county or state races have just more than a month to submit their respective petitions.  So far, all three of the incumbent Lake County commissioners whose terms expire this year have submitted petitions for re-election.  They include:  Dan Bohl and Chris Giles of Madison and Roger Hageman of Ramona.  Other Lake County officials who have submitted petitions for re-election are:  State’s Attorney Ken Meyer and Treasurer Linda Fischer.  The County Coroner’s office is also up for election this year.  All county officials serve four-year terms.
Statewide, all 105 state legislators are up for election this year.  In District 8, the only petitions filed so far are those of Leslie Heinemann of Flandreau, who is running in the state House race.  State lawmakers serve two-year terms.
The deadline to file county or statewide petitions is March 27th.
