LeVerne M. Quam, 74 of Sinai, SD died Saturday, February 18, 2012 at his home in Sinai.
LeVerne Quam was born on May 16, 1937 to Henry and Bernice (Thoreson) Quam at their home in Brookings County. He attended Bangor # 2 country school. LeVerne worked at Kneip Implement in Arlington, Farmers Union Co-op in Rutland, worked in California, returned to Sinai and was self-employed at the Sinai Co-op Service Station, worked for the Brookings Conservation District. After retiring he worked for Chad Wosje in Sinai. His ability to transform “junk” into treasure was unsurpassed. Among his accomplishments was winning an award for his stepgate invention. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Mr. Quam is survived by his wife Donna of Sinai, his children, Alan (Theresa) Quam, Lebanon, TN., Debra Albertson, Madison, SD. and Loren Quam, Madison, SD. a stepson, Tony in California. Two brothers, Alton (Margie) Quam, Sinai, SD and Chuck (Barbara) Quam, Dell Rapids, SD. two sisters, Delores (Kenneth) Shefte, Dell Rapids, SD and Barbara Hillestad, Sioux Falls, SD. 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
He is greeted in heaven by his parents, grandson, Ryan Albertson and step-son Tommy Mace.
Memorial services for Mr. Quam will be 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church in Nunda, SD., with Daryl Demery officiating, inurnment will be at a later date in the West Sinai Cemetery. The family will be present from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home
