Hathcock pleads guilty to vehicle break-ins
A former Dakota State University student has been sentenced on charges relating to several vehicle break-ins last fall. 19-year-old Ryan Hathcock, through his court-appointed attorney Phil Parent of Madison, pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges in connection with the thefts in Lake County Magistrate Court last week. As part of a plea agreement, more than 20 other similar charges will be dismissed. Authorities say Hathcock lived in Madison and attended DSU at the time of the thefts, but now lives in Mesa, Arizona. Hathcock pleaded guilty to one count of criminal entry of a motor vehicle and one count of second degree petty theft for one of the break-ins that occurred in September of 2011.
Magistrate Judge LeeAnn Pierce sentenced Hathcock to pay a fine of 300-dollars, and suspended a 30-day jail sentence based on several conditions, including that he pay total restitution to all victims of more than 1150-dollars and perform 60 hours of community service in the next 90 days.
