Weekend Trojan Recap



Rapid City, S.D. -- The Dakota State University Men’s and Women’s basketball teams finished their regular season schedule splitting a doubleheader of games against South Dakota Mines Saturday in Rapid City.  The DSU Women fell to the Lady Hardrockers 77-64, while the Men picked up a 79-74 victory.

The Lady Trojans never lead Saturday afternoon as they dropped their record to 7-21.  South Dakota Mines shot 56% from the field in the 1st half and held a 43-28 lead at halftime.  DSU opened the 2nd half on a 17-4 run to close the gap to two points, but the Lady Hardrockers went on a run of their own to seal the victory.  Cassie Jacobsen led DSU with a career-high 22 points.  Katy Pillar chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds, while Courtney Hamblin scored 10 for the Lady Trojans.

In the Men’s game, DSU held off a late rally to earn the 16th victory of the season for the first time since 1992.  The Trojans shot 52% from the floor in the 1st half and built a 14 point advantage, 38-24, at halftime.  DSU lead by as much as 17 in the 2nd half, but South Dakota Mines made a run and pulled within two points with just over two minutes to go.  The Trojans held off the rally and claimed the win in the regular season finale.  Spencer Adams led all scorers with a season-high 27 points and also pulled down nine rebounds.  Jesse Bean scored 15 for DSU, Cameron Krump contributed 12 points off of the bench and Luke Lamb picked up 10 points.

Both Trojan teams will be back in action this weekend as they host the State Farm A.I.I Tournament at the DSU Fieldhouse.  The Lady Trojans are the 5th seed and will face Valley City State Friday night at 6pm.  The DSU Men earned the #3 seed and will take on Valley City State Saturday at 5pm.
