Bulldog girls get first win of the year

Lennox, SD -- Madison’s girls rallied from a halftime deficit to get their first win of the season last night—a 38-33 triumph over Lennox in Big-8 Conference action.

The Bulldogs took the early lead 2-0, but the Orioles went on an 8-2 run to end the first quarter, then held on for a 14-13 halftime lead. Head coach Adam Ericsson credits Madison’s defense for keeping them in the game early.

Madison’s shooting percentage was night-and-day in the first and second halves. The Bulldogs shot just 33-percent in the first half, but shot 78-percent in the second half to outscore Lennox 25-19. Ericsson says the girls did a much better job selecting their shots in the second half.

Bailey Milne led the Bulldogs with 11 points and five rebounds, despite being in foul trouble most of the night. She says it’s a huge relief for the girls to get their first win of the season, especially in a competitive place like Lennox.

Freshman Madison Nipe had a strong fourth quarter to finish with six points, while Chloe Nordling and Abby Andresen also had six points apiece. Kayla Plimpton led the Orioles with 12 points, while Kirsten Klinger had six points and eight rebounds.

Madison hits the road Saturday as they play Pipestone in a border battle. Tip-off Saturday from Pipestone will be at 7:30.
