Gymnasts Have Solid Weekend at State

Brookings, SD -- Madison’s gymnasts wrapped up their season this weekend at the State Gymnastics meet in Brookings. The girls took home second place in Friday’s team competition, and had several top-5 finishes in the individual and all-around competition on Saturday.

On Friday, Deuel set a new record with 145.846 points as the Cardinals repeated as team champions. Madison came up second once again, scoring 141.979 points. Head coach Maridee Dossett says she was proud of how the girls competed on Friday.

Saturday’s competition had several Bulldogs finish in the top-five. Laura Blom finished third in the All-Around—placing second on the floor, third on the vault while taking fourth on the bars and beam. Lexi Finck was fifth in the All-Around as she was second in the floor, third on the vault, and fifth on the bars. Danielle Bloom was tied for fifth on the floor, while Shannon Winthers was fourth on the bars.

Blom, Finck, Bloom and Winthers were all named to the all-tournament team. Dossett says that says a lot for the depth on this year’s squad.

Freshman Meghan Sievers won her second all-around title for Deuel while teammate Sam Wiekamp finished second.
